Electric Car Charger Installations Essex
Local Home & Workplace EV Car Charger Specialists
Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do which is why A+C Electrical are specialists at installing residential and workplace charging points for electric cars across Essex.
One of the main benefits of electric vehicles is their environmental credentials. Unlike petrol or diesel cars, electric cars don’t emit any of the gases that contribute to global warming, making them a great choice for anyone who cares about their carbon footprint. As one of the 13 members of the Zero Emission Vehicle Alliance, the UK has pledged to make all passenger vehicles sold “zero-emissions” by 2050.

Recommended Installers of Home Electric Car Chargers
Full electric and plug-in hybrid cars are growing in popularity and now come in all shapes and sizes, from two seater city cars to 4x4 off-roaders. Electric vehicle (EV) technology has developed greatly since the milk float, and as performance and range increases, purchasing an electric vehicle is becoming a very viable option for many people.
Making the most of your Essex electric car
To get the most out of your electric car, a properly installed and equipped charging station at your own home is vital. It is estimated that electric vehicle owners do more than 80% of their charging at home. A home car charging point allows them to take advantage of the low, stable rates or residential electricity and the fast charging capacity of these specialised outlets.

The Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) Explained
The Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) is a government scheme for electric vehicles offered by the Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV).
- A single business can claim for up to a maximum of 20 charge points (e.g., 20 single socket or 10 double socket charge points).
- You cannot retrospectively claim – all claims are for newly installed charge points at your place of business.
- The purchase and installation cost of a new workplace charging station under the WCS is reduced by 75% for a single socket and is capped at £500 per socket.
How do you qualify for the Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS)
The WCS is available for all qualifying businesses subject to the criteria explained below:
- Your premises must be suitable with private and off-street parking
- You will need to have or already have electric vehicles or prove that there will be a future need for them.
- You must have the charging station installed by an OLEV- approved workplace charging station installer like A+C Electrical.

FAQs – Electric Car Chargers
Most homes have single phase 230V supplies meaning the maximum power of chargers suitable are 7kw/32amps. Chargers are supplied by a 6mm cable wired directly from your fuse box/consumer unit and must be on their own dedicated circuit.
Depending on the condition and capacity of your fuse box/consumer unit an additional unit may need to be installed to supply the electric vehicle circuit.
Suppliers now offer great EV tariffs with money saving incentives: scheduled charging enables the car to be plugged in and set to charge between pre-set times like midnight and 7am to charge when the EV tariff gives the lowest price of electricity. This requires a smart meter to be fitted by your supplier.
A full electric Hyundai Ioniq costs much less to run than an equivalent petrol or diesel saloon, at around £4.80 to charge from empty to full, with a range of 193 miles, costing only 2.94 p per mile (based on 14p/kWh tariff).
9/10 customers go for tethered – a built in lead – as it is more convenient and allows you to keep your spare lead in the boot to use when you are away from home.
Some clients however prefer to have untethered – socket only – as they find the coiled leads untidy when not in use.
It’s a matter of personal taste and what suits you. At A+C Electrical we can install both types of home electric car charging point.
EV owners can “refill” their cars at home simply by plugging it in. You can use a standard outlet which takes a while or install a car charger for a much quicker charge. All electric vehicles come with a home connector kit.
Yes, it is standard practice and with built in battery management systems, there is no risk of overcharging. It means that you will find your car fully charged in the morning but not overcharged.
No, for safety reasons don’t do it yourself. Always hire a registered and certified electrician to install it for you.
